Beverly Hills

Find Beverly Hills Homes For Sale below and a little read through about Beverly Hills history from the early days to present – before the fame brought in by the movie industry, the area now known as Beverly Hills was highly sought after for its “El Rodeo del las Aguas”, meaning, the “Gathering of the Waters”. The valuable water flowed from present day Franklin, Coldwater and Benedict canyons and gathered at one place which the inhabitants considered a sacred site, a source of life.

In 1838, the Mexican governor deeded this land to the widow of a Spanish soldier, Maria Rita, who raised cattle and horses. Maria built her adobe ranch home near the intersection of present day Sunset Blvd and Alpine Dr.

After the Civil war oil wells began to be drilled. In 1900, Burton Green and his partners purchased “Morocco”, a company for oil exploration. After many failed attempts Green reorganized as the “Rodeo Land and Water Company” in 1906, and he and his wife renamed the land Beverly Hills. In 1912 the Beverly Hills hotel was constructed at the site of the “Gathering of the Waters”. The hotel served as a way station for a tiny railroad stop, a theater, meeting place and church.

After the city was incorporated in 1912, the life and times of the Roaring 20’s redefined the area and really set the stage to what the city has become now. Now a modern city, Beverly Hills has developed to be one of the most glamorous places in the world to live, eat, play and shop. It is one of three cities that make up the platinum triangle, know for its wellspring of affluence.

Bel Air is one of the most prestigious locales in the country. For those ready to take the plunge into high society, let the home search begin.
